What is Grade calculator?

Grade Calculator — Free grade calculator with weighted categories — see your current grade and exactly what score you need on the final exam to reach your target grade.

Weighted-grade math: the current grade is the weighted average over GRADED categories only, renormalized by the weight actually graded so far — sum(score x weight) / sum(graded weights). The final-exam solver inverts that: needed = (target x totalWeight - lockedPoints) / finalWeight, where lockedPoints is everything already earned plus assumed scores for other ungraded categories (assumed 0 by default). The computation is the pure engine from the MIT-licensed yashmitb/gradecalc (vendored), which also supplies the standard US letter scale. Limitations: it assumes weights are on a 100-point scale and scores are percents — it cannot know your school's custom scale, dropped-grade policies, or extra credit rules; an ungraded category is treated as unsolved-for until you pick it, never as zero.

How to use Grade Calculator

  1. 1List your grade categories in the "Grade categories (one per line)" box using the format: Name, weight %, score %. Leave the score blank for anything not graded yet.
  2. 2Enter your desired final grade in the "Target final grade (%)" field — for example 90 for an A-.
  3. 3Type the category you want to solve for in the "Category to solve for" field — usually your upcoming final exam.
  4. 4Run the tool to get your current weighted grade, its letter grade, and the exact score you need on that category to hit your target.
  5. 5Read the course status: secured, on-track, or at-risk — and re-run as new scores come in to see how the required final-exam score moves.

Good to know

  • Weights are treated as percents on a 100-point scale and scores as percents — the tool cannot apply your school's custom grading scale, dropped-grade, or extra-credit policies.
  • Categories you solve for must be ungraded; other ungraded categories are assumed to score 0% in the solver (a conservative default), not their likely score.
  • The letter grade uses the standard US +/- scale (A+ 97, A 93, A- 90, B+ 87, B 83, B- 80, C+ 77, C 73, C- 70, D 55, F 0) — your school may use different cutoffs.
  • Course status (secured / on-track / at-risk) is relative to the weights and scores you entered; a mistyped weight changes the verdict.
